Report on the Grain Grinder given to Freedom Humanist Orphanage in Chad

Introduction

This report highlights the significant impact of the grinder provided to the Freedom Humanist Orphanage in Chad, detailing how it has been used to generate income that sustains the orphanage. The grinder has played a vital role in supporting the orphanage’s day-to-day operations, ensuring the children are well-fed, and allowing them to attend school. We are deeply grateful to HuMAN for their continued support, which has made this transformation possible.

Income Generation Through the Grinder

The grinder has enabled the Freedom Humanist Orphanage to generate a steady income by offering milling services to the local community. Families and small businesses in the surrounding area bring grains, maize, and other crops to the orphanage for milling, paying a small fee for the service. This revenue has created a consistent income stream that helps cover the orphanage’s operational costs.

The income from the milling service has been used in various ways to directly benefit the children and maintain the orphanage’s infrastructure. The grinder not only serves the community but also allows the orphanage to remain financially self-sufficient, reducing its reliance on external donations

Improved Nutrition for the Children

With the additional income generated from the milling services, the orphanage has been able to provide better nourishment for the children. Regular meals are now provided, ensuring that each child receives adequate nutrition to support their growth, health, and well-being. The orphanage has been able to expand its food variety, including staple foods like maize flour, rice, vegetables, and fruits, as well as fortified foods that support the children’s development.

The consistency in food supply has significantly improved the children's overall health, reducing malnutrition-related issues that had been a concern in the past. The children are now healthier, more energetic, and able to engage better in their daily activities, including schoolwork.

Educational Opportunities for the Children

The grinder's income has also had a positive effect on the educational prospects of the children at the Freedom Humanist Orphanage. With the additional funds, the orphanage has been able to pay for school registration fees, school supplies, uniforms, and transportation for the children. As a result, all the children have been able to enroll in local schools and continue their education.

The ability to attend school has been a transformative experience for the children. It has given them the opportunity to learn, develop new skills, and build a better future for themselves. They are now receiving a formal education, which will provide them with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable lives.

Sustainability and Future Prospects

The income from the grinder has created a model for sustainability that ensures the long-term operation of the orphanage. With ongoing support from HuMAN, the orphanage plans to maintain and possibly expand the grinding services to continue generating income. The orphanage is also exploring ways to use this income to further invest in other areas, such as improving healthcare for the children, expanding vocational training programs, and enhancing living conditions.
